What are Protein Muffins?

The Protein Bread Co.’s Protein muffin mixes come in two varieties: sweet (original) and savoury. Both Protein Muffin mixes help you to essentially create guilt free versions of your favourite muffins that are both high in protein and low in carbs.

How do I make these Protein Muffins?

Both the sweet and savoury Protein Muffin mixes require just a few ingredients to be added to them: eggs, milk and your favourite muffin fillings e.g. Apple pieces and blueberries for sweet, or feta cheese and tomatoes for savoury. Once your ingredients have been mixed together, it’s simply a case of putting the mixture into muffin tins and baking in the oven.

What is in the protein muffins?

Both of the Protein Muffin mixes have a compact ingredients list compared to other Protein Baking mixes on the market. The sweet muffins ingredients includes almond meal, lupin, golden flax meal, whey protein, kibbled sunflower, coconut flour, vanilla bean powder, gluten free baking powder, natural sweetener, natural flavour (plant extract) and salt. The savoury mix has similar ingredients plus herbs such as oregano, rosemary and thyme, and minus the vanilla bean powder.

Where does the ‘protein’ come from?

The Protein in the Protein Muffin mixes comes mainly from the Whey Protein. The Whey Protein Concentrate used in the Muffin mixes has 80% protein which is sourced from Warrnambool Cheese and Butter on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria, Australia. It is made up of 80.2% protein, 6.1% carbs and 5.7% fats (which are great macros). To find out why we use this Whey Protein, click here (insert link to ‘Why we use Australian whey protein in our protein bread’). The Whey Protein in the muffin mixes will keep you feeling full and satisfied.

What can I make with the muffin mixes?

The possibilities with both muffin mixes are endless! With the sweet muffins you can make carrot cake muffins with cream cheese frosting(!), high protein brownies and salted caramel banana muffins, to name a few. The savoury muffin mix can be used to make chicken and bacon pizza muffins, spinach and feta muffins and Hawaiian pizza muffins and many more. Just click to the recipes tab at the top of the web page.

What do protein muffins taste like?

Depending of course on the muffins that you make, both taste delicious. I recently used the sweet muffin mix to create the double chocolate muffins and they tasted wholesome and not too sweet. I did also add some peanut butter as a topping which was great. The savoury muffin mix, on the other hand, tastes slightly nutty with an Italian twist due to the herbs in the mix. My favourite recipe for these savoury muffins is the feta and tomato recipe. These are a great breakfast option for on the go, or great paired with salad for lunch.

How many protein muffins should I eat if I am trying to lose weight?

If you are trying to lose weight, I would recommend (as part of a healthy and balanced diet) having 1 or 2 muffin servings with a portion of salad for lunch. These muffins are low in carb but high in protein so should leave you feeling full and satisfied. The sweet muffin mix is a great option to curb those sugar cravings, and the savoury muffins are a great option for lunches.
