I’m always on the hunt for exciting new products that I can fit in and enjoy whilst living low carb and when I saw this handsome-looking bottle of Lo Bros Organic Cola sitting on the shelf, boy did I get excited!

The hook? “Naturally Low in Sugar” there it was, right on the front of the bottle in refreshing electric blue letters. I could almost feel my tongue starting to get excited by the notion of a sugar-free cola.

Over the years I’ve seen (and tried) numerous “sugar-free” soft drinks and more often than not, they don’t taste very good, or the ingredients are so bad I’d rather just suck it up and eat the sugar directly!

So the question remains… is Lo Bros Organic Cola just like the rest… or does it have the knockout punch?

Let’s find out!

So first things first, how does Lo Bros Organic Cola taste?

Freakin delicious – no joke. Lo Bros Organic Cola is super refreshing, sharp, crisp and with a hint of the fermented / kombucha style tang without being overpowering.

It’s got just a hint of sweetness which is perfect because once you’ve cut out sugar from your diet most things taste SUPER SWEET which is a huge turn-off. Not Lo Bros Organic Cola, however. Sweetness level nailed. ✅

Most importantly, some might argue, are the bubbles! Does it have that bubbly deliciousness that you’ve come to love from the mainstream soft drink manufacturers? Absolutely! I would rate the bubbly-ness at around 70% of CocaCola which for me is perfect.

So, what is in Lo Bros Organic Cola?

The ingredients listed on my Lo Bros Organic Cola are:

Fermented Base (Filtered Water, Green & Black Tea, Cultures), Apple Cider Vinegar (2%), Sweeteners [Erythritol, Stevia Leaf Extract (Steviol Glycosides)], Sugar, Spice & Citrus Extracts (Lemon, Orange, Cassia, Nutmeg, Ginger, Lime, Cinnamon) (<1%), Probiotics (<1%).

Ingredients are taken from the packaging on the 1st October 2018 and may differ to what you see on yours.

Ingredients wise that’s pretty good if you ask me! There’s nothing in there that you even need to look at twice which I think is really positive.

It’s great to see they’ve chosen to use the Erythritol & Stevia combo which is one of the best natural sugar replacers/sweeteners in terms of taste, insulin response and comfort for sensitive stomachs.

Nutritionally, how does Lo Bros Organic Cola compare?

Lo Bros Organic Cola Nutrition

So well it almost seems cruel! Not as cruel as sugar-related illnesses though.

Lo Bros Organic Cola has just 3.7g of sugar per serve (the whole bottle) which is just under 1 teaspoon – amazing!

Per serve (330 mL), Lo Bros Organic Cola contains:

✅ Energy: 96 kJ (40 Cal)
✅ Protein: < 1 g
✅ Fat:< 1 g
✅ Carbs (total): 4.5 g
✅ – Sugars: 3.7 g

Information was taken from the label 01/10/18

Let’s compare that to 330 mL of Coca-Cola:

✅ Energy: 594 kJ (142 Cal)
✅ Protein: 0 g
✅ Fat: 0 g
✅ Carbs (total): 35 g
✅ – Sugars: 35 g

Information is taken from Coca-Cola website 01/10/18

The contrast is truly stunning. The Lo Bros Organic Cola has 31g LESS SUGAR than Coca-Cola (equivalent volume).  That extra 31g of sugar works out to be over 8 teaspoons of sugar! Imagine putting 8 teaspoons of sugar in your coffee ?.

What does this Lo Bros Organic Cola pair well with?

? Whatever you like! But I do have to recommend for a delicious low carb “cheat night” it would go absolutely fantastically with our Protein Pizza Bases with just 6g carbs in the whole base!

Did Lo Bros Organic Cola deliver on its promise?

100% yes. It’s a cola, it’s refreshing, it tastes fantastic. What more could you want?

Where can you buy Lo Bros Organic Cola?

I’ve seen it in both Coles and Woolworths and I assume it’s in IGA’s and many other grocery shops too. It has a RRP of $4.00 but is often on special.

What other flavours of organic soda do Lo Bros make?

They make a whole range of Organic Kombucha and whilst I haven’t tried all of them, I’m comfortable to say they’re probably going to be delicious!
