Hey guys, Luke here from PBCo. 🙂 There’s a good chance you’ve seen my name floating around before but incase you haven’t, I thought it would be a great opportunity to share some info so you can get to know me a bit better!
My passion (and what I do here) is to figure out new ways to help our amazing community to become fitter, healthier and happier versions of themselves.
This covers everything from chatting with people on social media, figuring out what content should go in our email newsletter (sign up for that if you haven’t already), to how we can make our website even easier and more useful for you guys.
I also love thinking about what changes we can make to our current products, or what new products we should bring out, which will help people to eat more healthily and enjoy life more!
Aside from the more community and product focused side of things, I also look after all the digital and physical infrastructure here, everything from our IT & Networks to our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility we built (I’m a bit of a nerd).
When I’m not at the office you’ll find me (actually you probably won’t) in the mountains somewhere running through the bush like I just stole something 😂. I’m an avid trail runner and for some reason I get huge satisfaction from running up and down gigantic hills.
In fact, last May I completed one of Australia’s toughest marathons, the Buffalo Stampede in Bright, Victoria. You can read more about that here.
This year, I’ve signed up for the Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra Marathon in Scotland – 52kms and 4000m climbing on the highest mountains in the British Isle!
How I got started with low carb
I struggled with my weight as a child all the way up to my teen years. I was always incredibly tall for my age but would go through spurts of growing out first, before growing up.
At 15, after years of struggling with this, a family friend suggested to look weight training, combined with a high protein diet, which naturally meant less carbs. I took his advice and low and behold – it worked!
After getting some fantastic initial results, it gave me the motivation and confidence that this wasn’t “just the way I am”. After that it was like I was a different person. I had more energy, which meant I could exercise more (and actually enjoy it), so I then became happier and had more motivation to continue eating well – it’s a great cycle!
The benefits for me, and to so many others, are literally life changing.
Why I love low carb
The power of a low carb diet to transform lives is profound and something I’m so passionate about helping people with.
The best part of all, is that its relatively cheap and easy to do. No fad diets, no fancy “secret potions” from the amazon that sell for $89 a bottle, no slogging it out on a treadmill for an hour a day, just simple honest natural foods – the way we used to eat.
The differences I’ve experienced in terms of weight loss, more stable energy levels and enhanced mental clarity are amazing and something which is actually hard to comprehend if you’ve never experienced it first hand.
My favourite PBCo. product
6 Seeds Protein Bread for sure. I make up a focaccia with it first thing every Monday morning. It takes about 3 minutes prep and means I’ve got a healthy brekkie or quick snack for the rest of the week so I can still eat, when I don’t have time to eat!
What inspires me to do what I do…
I’m not a religious man but I do believe we have a responsibility to leave the world a better place for those who follow in our footsteps. It might be cliche to say, but imagine if everyone, including our leaders thought, and more importantly, acted this way. What could the world look like then?
It’s hard to change policy and politics but the good news is we don’t have to, well not yet…
Whilst so many dieticians, policy makers and *cough* the DAA are busy arguing why low carb living doesn’t work, it’s people like you and I that are out there proving that it does – transforming their lives. Losing weight they’ve struggled to shift for decades. Reducing their dependency on insulin and medication. Feeling alive again.
That’s what inspires me; the enjoyment that comes from helping empower others to better their own lives and act as role models for those around them. It’s contagious.
