Top 5 LOW CARB Friendly Sydney Cafes

Struggling to find a cafe where there isn’t bread, grains or spuds on pretty much every menu item? In-house Nutritionist Melissa knows her health cafes, so here you go - a roundup of Sydney spots that cater to your low carb needs...Proof that you can dine out and still be low carb!

5. Hale & Hearty

Keto bowl 🤤 Keto is the word. #keto bowl available with crispy bacon 🥓 chicken 🍗 breast fillet & Chorizo! Your choice! There is heaps on this menu that you could tweak to make low carb friendly too. Waterloo - ADDRESS: 859 Bourke Street, Waterloo NSW, 2017 Bondi Junction - ADDRESS: 310-330 Oxford Street, Bondi Junction 2022

4. Sprout Wholefood Cafe

Sprout Naked Breakkie @wholefoodsam
This gem of a cafe in the lower North Shore has made sure their low carb customers won’t leave hungry with the Naked Breakfast: Grilled haloumi, poached eggs, avo, tomato salsa and mushies, all brought together with Sprout’s super green pesto. Up the protein even further by adding bacon. Um, yes! For lunch you’ll be in your element with the Protein Bowl - that’s your choice of braised lamb and citrus dressing OR grilled miso chicken served on a bed of kale and cabbage slaw and fermented veg, topped off with poached egg. Or if you’re into the current poke trend (Hawaiian salad with marinated raw fish and rice), they’ve recently added a salmon poke bowl to the menu, complete with cauliflower rice. 272-274 Willoughby Rd, Naremburn

3. Ruby’s Diner

Ruby's Diner @ola_is_traveling knows how to do breakkie right with the Breakfast Salad.
Join the weekend queue of diners in their active wear for a wholesome low carb breakkie that’s worth the wait. Order one of Ruby’s specialty coffees to tide you over - they’re big on bulletproof coffee, like the Iceproof if you're needing all-day fuel: with filter black coffee, grass-fed butter, MCT oil and vanilla whey protein over ice, this actually tastes like a milkshake. There’s something for every dietary requirement here - from vegan to gluten free, to something for us low carb/high protein folk. My favourite is the Breakfast Salad; despite the ever-changing seasonal menu, it's available year-round because it’s so popular: with kale, broccoli, avocado and almonds, and topped with poached eggs and soft fetta, this combo that just works...and I’m not usually even a kale person. The Paleo Burger is on my to-try list; with a thick-cut, grass-fed organic beef patty, all the Aussie toppings, plus a poached egg, and all held together by a lettuce bun. ‘Make it primal’ and add vintage cheddar if you’d like, too...a burger without a carb-y bun we can do, but a burger without cheese we can’t, so cheese thanks! Shop 1 & 2, 179/173 Bronte Rd, Waverley

2. Preach Cafe

Preach Cafe Word. @preachcafe
Had to include a Bondi option here, and we’re super impressed that this newer-to-the-hood cafe, which has a ‘K’ for ‘Keto’ key on the menu...really! There’s the usual omelette suspect, but we’re eyeing the Portobello Mushroom Cups for something a bit different; these babies are stuffed with maple beef bacon, basil goats cheese, heirloom tomato and kale crisp. Awesome warehouse interior too. 120 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach

1. About Life

About Life Protein on point @benjiaus
With 7 locations across Sydney - from Cammeray to Double Bay - chill at the casual wholefood cafe before heading to the adjoining grocery store for all your low carb goodies...our fresh Protein Bread loaves and mixes included! My go-to at the cafe is the 3-egg omelette that covers an entire plate, stuffed with three fillings of your choice (always haloumi in mine). For lunch, get one of the Signature Proteins with any 2 low carb veggie sides for just $15.90 - there’s everything from Miso, Ginger & Sesame Barramundi or Dukkah Crusted Huon Tasmanian Salmon, to Pulled Pork cooked in bone broth or Chicken Breast with oregano garlic and lemon - both free range.
